Pilot project aims to transform urban logistics and e-commerce delivery
ABU DHABI – Under the supervision of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC), the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) has launched a pilot project for autonomous e-commerce delivery vehicles in Abu Dhabi.
The initiative, in partnership with noon and AutoGo – a subsidiary of K2 – marks a significant step towards advancing the emirate’s smart mobility ecosystem and sustainable transport objectives.
The project integrates AutoGo’s self-driving delivery vehicles into noon’s logistics network, enhancing the efficiency of supplying mini-fulfilment centres across Abu Dhabi. Equipped with artificial intelligence and advanced sensors, these vehicles can navigate urban areas safely and deliver orders autonomously, eliminating the need for human drivers.
The trial aims to combine smart mobility technologies with e-commerce operations, boosting operational efficiency while reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions.
Who is leading the initiative?
Dr Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director General of the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), highlighted the strategic importance of the project. He said the initiative demonstrates ITC’s commitment to enabling innovative technologies within a safe regulatory framework, supporting Abu Dhabi’s goal of creating a smarter, more sustainable transport system that improves quality of life across the community.
Faraz Khalid, CEO of noon, added that the partnership represents a significant step towards redefining e-commerce logistics, improving efficiency and sustainability, and strengthening Abu Dhabi’s leadership in digital transformation.
How will the pilot project expand?
Following this milestone, AutoGo will continue collaborating with noon and the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) to expand the trial to additional neighbourhoods and a wider range of products. Full commercial operations are expected to be rolled out more broadly in the near future. This move aligns with Abu Dhabi’s comprehensive smart-mobility strategy, which aims for 25 percent of all trips in the emirate to be completed through smart transport by 2040.
